Why this is classified high risk
Stripe, Square, PayPal, and Shopify Payments prohibit firearms and ammunition outright. Many larger ISOs that nominally allow the category quietly drop merchants when card brands re-classify SKUs or when public pressure spikes.
The 2022 push for a firearms-specific MCC (5723) raised additional surveillance concerns. We place merchants only at acquirers that have publicly committed to the category and that don't apply the new MCC without merchant consent.

Pricing factors
Firearms pricing ranges 2.95% – 4.45% + $0.25 depending on volume mix (CP vs CNP), average ticket, and chargeback history. Retail-heavy FFLs price toward the low end; high-volume online retailers with optics + accessories price mid-range.
Reserves are typically 0–5% for established FFLs with clean history, 5–10% for online-only startups.
