Payment Processing for OnlyFans-Style Subscription Platforms

Recurring billing, chargeback exposure, KYC and age verification, and how to set up a stable high-risk merchant account for creator platforms.

The platform vs. creator distinction matters

If you're a creator billing fans directly through your own site, you need an adult merchant account in your name or LLC. If you're building a platform with multiple creators, you need a marketplace-capable adult acquirer — that's a meaningfully different underwriting profile because you're processing on behalf of others and have payout obligations.

The recurring-billing stack

  • Tokenization via NMI, CCBill, or Segpay so cards are vaulted at the gateway, not in your DB.
  • Account updater so expired cards roll forward automatically — this alone preserves 5–10% of monthly revenue.
  • Smart retry logic on soft declines. Default: 3 retries over 7 days with adaptive timing.
  • Pre-renewal notification email 3 days before the rebill. The single highest-ROI dispute-prevention email in adult.
  • Self-serve cancellation inside the member area. Hard-to-cancel flows generate disputes that get the MID terminated.

KYC and age verification — non-negotiable

Every creator on your platform must be ID-verified with documented age verification on file. This is both a legal requirement (2257) and an acquirer requirement. The compliant stack:

  • Government-ID upload at creator onboarding
  • Selfie liveness match to the ID
  • Address verification
  • Records retained per 2257 for the platform's record-keeper
  • Fan-side age gate: click-through is no longer sufficient — acquirers in 2026 expect Yoti, AgeChecked, or equivalent

Chargeback exposure on creator platforms

Subscription dispute rate is structurally higher than one-time. Add adult MCC and the math gets worse. Targets:

  • Raw dispute rate under 1.5%
  • Post-alert dispute rate under 0.9% (the VAMP threshold)
  • Fraud-coded chargebacks under 0.65%

Tools that get you there: Verifi RDR + Ethoca alerts (mandatory in adult), 3DS2 on first subscription, descriptor with phone number, pre-renewal email, frictionless cancel.

Payout to creators — the part most platforms underestimate

You'll need a payout rail. Options:

  • ACH for US creators (cheap, slow — 2–3 days)
  • International wire for non-US (slow, expensive)
  • Stablecoin payouts (USDC/USDT) — fast, low-cost, increasingly common in adult creator economics
  • Paxum, Cosmo, or other adult-friendly payout networks

Approval timeline

7–14 business days from complete file. Acquirers want: corporate docs, 2257 compliance documentation, age-verification provider contract, creator-onboarding KYC flow walkthrough, and 3 months of processing history if you have it.
